This is a serious question! I have asked a number of friends and the answers are not consistent. Now, I'll be the first to say the photography is less than "good" but we're all looking at the same pictures. So, what color is this quilt when you first look at it?
What about now? It's a "blue" quilt, huh? The shade creates a consistent sense of color for some reason that I don't understand and am not likely to spend much time trying to figure out.
These are the wonderful fabrics I got at Houston last year (sigh....). They are Caryl Bryer Fallert's reproductions of her hand dyes and I adore them. They were a Benartex product. But, I only have two strips left and need to bind the quilt.
I quilted this on my longarm with Glide thread -- it's a pale pale silver that almost has a metallic look. I had a few problems with an occasional skipped stitch and actually "unquilted" about 2/3 of a pass because of tension issues that popped up. I'm sure this was something I did and not the Glide. And I could not be happy with this on the back -- so I finished the quilt, took it off, ripped, and put it back on. I'm much happier!
So -- this really is a serious question. I'd love to bind with a dominant color but I can't figure out what that would be!
I hope you are finding time to quilt with fabrics you love!

I think bind with blue, but then again if yu chose yellow yu might bring out the yellow and it would be a yellow quilt. I think you need to lie it next to some options. It's lovely - really bright and vibrant.
I can't decide on the quilt colour...multi coloured?! What about a scrappy binding in all the colours?
I'd call it rainbow transparency.
The overall tone (IMO) is "cool." I'd bind it with pink/cherry just because.
Stunning quilt! I've no clue what binding. If it were me I slap black on it and call it done.
Ditto on the color -- I was thinking green but knew that wasn't right because there were so many colors. For binding I would go down to the local quilt store with quilt in hand and pick a bright go with fab -- use one of the colors in the quilt. I like the idea of the cherry color too. Good luck.
Do you have a multicolored fabric that might work for the binding. If not than whatever color you pick will be the primary color in the quilt because the binding will make it that way. Neat quilt!!!!!
Hugs
Love your quilt! The top photos read "warm" to me but the lower ones read "cool". Your quilt is so busy I wouldn't use a multi-color binding. I would go with a dark color, either blue or green for the binding to give the eye a stopping point.
It's a beautiful quilt and it's all about value, not color. I think I'd either bind it with one of the light/bright colors (orange, yellow) or one of the darkest values (dark blue, purple or green). I think anything will work!
bind it with your favorite color that is in the quilt! and if you don't want to do that, bind it with black. it is a beautiful quilt.
I see more red, but I think whatever color you choose, that color will be brought out more in the quilt. Value is the key, as another person mentioned. It is gorgeous.
extraordinary quilt. What a fabulous use of color to produce such a balanced design
I agree with bunbear, choose your favorite color in the quilt and use that or use black.
Looking forward to seeing what you choose.
Gorgeous quilt! I think you could safely bind it with any of the cool colors and the focus will stay on the quilt, not the binding. Though black binding might make a really great frame.
What a lovely quilt! You can bind it with any color...what do you have the most of?
I love how the colors change depending on the angle of the photo. It is really interesting to see that. For me I think I saw purples and blues the most. Binding it with your favorite color should be fine. It will make that color pop. Or, you could just go with black. That would also be pretty. Such a nice job!!
The warm colors really jump out at me in the top pics, but it is definitely blue when you see the whole thing. I say bind with the blue. Thanks for sharing - this was fun to look at.
Wow! This is a remarkable quilt! So stunning!!
What a lovely cheerful quilt :) I would make a scrappy binding using all the leftovers.
Yes, blue, blue, blue!
Beautiful quilt - I thought right away to bind with a purple, like one of the dark blue-toned purples!
Sooooooo beautiful!!!!!!!!
This quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I think if it was me I'd bind it with the bright golden yellow color!
Yellow?
The colour of this quilt is Rainbow!
It is just breathtakingly beautiful, I love it.
I think it would look great bound in the darker blue but to be honest nothing you do is going to spoil this beauty now, so pick whatever you fancy, it's never going to be anything sort of fab!
No matter what color you will call it. It looks great! Well done!
Wow, it's bright, bold and beautiful! I love the colour flow. I personally saw red as the strongest colour, but blue is great too. I don't think you can go wrong with this quilt. Thanks for linking up to TGIFF!
VERY beautiful!
The color? Its the 4 Seasons color ;-) I would bind it with a dark color that doesn't stand out. that way there is more emphasis on the quilt top itself...
Gorgeous quilt! You are very talented! I'd say the quilt is definitely "blue", but I think it's because you have some many cool tones. The browns have undertones if blue as do the greens and purples. I think the ombré really brings it out. And I agree with Alycia, bind with a dark color, like a navy. I'll really focus in one that beauty of the quilt and frame it nicely. Found you on the Bacon Time with Hungry Hypo link up =) And BTDubs, if you ever sell your quilts and would consider doing a custom, email me. My son has one, but my daughter does not. And I've been looking for someone. =) Kyla @ http://houseofhipsters.com/
Wow. that quilt is awesome! I always find it amazing what people create with some fabric of different colors! I am a quilter too and enjoy perusing quilt pictures as it keeps me inspried to keep on quilting. followed you from Anything Goes linky
What incredible use of beautiful fabric. I love the design and how the gradients work together visually. Beautiful quilt!
the first pics made me think lime green. I love that color so that's what I focused on. Then blue. It's lovely and defies labels. LeeAnna at not afraid of color
Love this quilt. The fabrics are fabulous. I would bind in the dark blue or black.
Not sure there is a "wrong" color for binding. This quilt is beautiful!
Black and white stripe is my 'go to' binding. It seems to suit most quilts.
I'm thinking orange would finish this off nicely. But, it needs to be one of those darker oranges. Gorgeous top by the way!
love the quilt. fabulous job. Is this your design or a pattern? Since I am a noreply (can't figure out how to change that)here is my email address.
